Saturday 1st February 2014 was a red letter day for Aveton Gifford Project Group as David Balkwill had kindly agreed to attend a book signing event in the Memorial Hall.
David has been writing articles for the Magnet and Magpie newsletters for many years on the subject of farming and village life in times past. When The Heritage book of Aveton Gifford was planned around the Millenium he contributed a chapter on farming. Since then he has typed his articles into chapters which members of our group felt privileged to read. Not many well over 80 year olds are writing letters let alone a potential book!
There was a fantastic atmosphere in the hall, most people came to buy and sat with David as he signed their book and he made time to chat. There were refreshments available so groups could sit and chat or look at the photographic display. We were thrilled to see visitors from Yealmpton, Harberton, Loddiswell, Kingsbridge and Churchstow and maybe further afield.
