The Parish Project Group has produced a number of publications over the years. The more recent of these are available for purchase from the village shop, the Harbour Bookshop in Kingsbridge,the Post Office in Modbury, or directly from the Project Group. The leaflets of the two Aveton Gifford walks are available from local Tourist Information Centres (Kingsbridge and Modbury). Copies of "A Countryman's Glimpse of the Twentieth Century" and "The Bombing of Aveton Gifford" can also be bought at St Andrew's Church.

 

RECENTLY PUBLISHED!

A COUNTRYMAN'S GLIMPSE OF THE TWENTIETH CENTURY - A memoir by David Balkwill.  £13.50

This beautiful and descriptive account of David's memories of farming throughout most of the twentieth century cover both his father's and his own days at Court Barton, and document the changes he has seen both in his farming life and that of the village throughout those years. It gives a fascinating view of rural life in the last century in the South Hams.

It is published as an A4 paperback, 127 pages, and illustrated with both archive and colour photographs.

AVETON GIFFORD, A HERITAGE £10

Published 2002. A4 paperback, 164 pages.

A beautifully illustrated  book about all aspects of the parish, including its history and heritage. It includes many archive photographs, and also personal accounts from many different members of the community, giving a comprehensive picture of the life of the parish in times past and the present day.

 

MAKING TRACKS £2

A guide to the public rights of way throughout the parish.

It was revised in 2007 to replace previous footpath guides. This comprehensive booklet gives descriptions of all the footpaths, bridleways and cycle paths. It includes historical and nature notes, an illustrated plan of the village and ordinance survey map of the parish.

 

THE BOMBING OF AVETON GIFFORD £5

Published 2012. A5 paperback, 44 pages.

 This is a revised and updated account of the bombing of the village in 1943 which replaces the previous publication of the same name, and includes "The day the bombs fell on Aveton Gifford". It includes new information from both British and German wartime records, eyewitness accounts and archive photographs.

Published 1992.   Poster 60 x 43 cm.   A lavishly illustrated map of the whole parish drawn by Mike Glanville. It contains a wealth of historical and natural history infomation.
